Company History
Dr. Scot Ackerman, a Board Certified radiation oncologist with a background in biomedical engineering, founded Ackerman Cancer Center in 1997 after serving as chief resident at Columbia University and working at St. Vincent’s Healthcare in Jacksonville, Florida. His vision was to offer patients a more accessible, personalized alternative to hospital-based cancer care. The practice quickly expanded to Amelia Island in 1998 and launched the First Coast Cancer Foundation (now Ackerman Cancer Foundation) in 2009 to assist patients with essential living expenses. In 2014, Ackerman Cancer Center opened the first and only physician-owned proton therapy treatment facility in the world, further cementing its reputation for combining cutting-edge technology with compassionate care.
