Company Overview
Advanced Radiology is a full service radiology imaging practice with physician ownership serving Southern Connecticut for 115 years, and is one of the largest radiology practices in the tri-state area. Advanced Radiology is an innovative practice focused on providing consistently exceptional service to hospitals, referring physicians, patients, and ARC imaging centers with state-of-the-art clinical technology and sub-specialized expertise. Advanced Radiology boasts the area’s most experienced radiologists; all are subspecialty, fellowship-trained physicians providing the highest quality general radiology, fluoroscopy, mammography, ultrasound, MRI, CT, nuclear medicine, PET/CT, DEXA, and interventional radiology services. Advanced Radiology currently provides various services at local hospitals including St. Vincent’s Medical Center. Advanced Radiology is centered in Fairfield County, Connecticut, which offers an abundance of cultural and leisure activities, excellent cuisine, good schools and is in close proximity to NYC and Boston.
Company History
Advanced Radiology has its origins at Bridgeport Hospital. Dr. George Lewis, after returning from his service during the Civil War, began his practice in Bridgeport, CT. There was no hospital at this time. Dr. Lewis convinced his wealthy aunt, Susan Hubbell, to donate land and finance the construction of a new hospital. On March 15, 1878, the famous Bridgeport resident, P.T. Barnum, mayor of Bridgeport and member of the Connecticut legislature, along with other leaders, obtained the state legislature’s approval to incorporate Bridgeport Hospital. The hospital opened its doors on November 12, 1884 and began treating patients.
The first medical use of x-rays began in the 1890s in Connecticut. The first radiology department created at Bridgeport Hospital began in 1905, which is the beginning of our involvement at Bridgeport Hospital and our future as Advanced Radiology. Many transitions and technological advances have taken place during our more than 115-year history as we have expanded throughout Southern Connecticut. We are stronger than ever and now Connecticut's largest independent Radiology practice, with imaging centers in Fairfield, Orange, Stamford, Shelton, Stratford, Trumbull and Wilton.
