Company History
Guthrie Clinic has been the recognized provider of care in this region of the Northeast for 100 years, since Dr. Donald Guthrie brought the multi-specialty group practice to Sayre, PA from the Mayo Clinic in 1910. Combining business acumen and clinical excellence, medical and administrative staff is paired at every level of the organization; teamwork is an integral part of the Guthrie culture. Passionate in our pursuit of excellence, we measure clinical quality, patient satisfaction, provider satisfaction, and employee satisfaction, set a goal and improve continuously, always asking more of ourselves. Guthrie/Robert Packer Hospital offers residency programs in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine and General Surgery. Guthrie Foundation for Education and Research supports more than 60 clinical trials related to the treatment of heart disease, cancer, and other conditions. Quality nursing staff with over 50% of nursing staff having met further subspecialty certification requirements.
Notable Accomplishments / Recognition
Guthrie's Robert Packer Hospital was ranked number one in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and 21st nationally for overall hospital care in the 2011 Hospital Quality Awards. The rankings, released from The Delta Group, compare federally reported clinical data from virtually all 5,000 general, acute, non-federal hospitals in the country.
Guthrie's Robert Packer Hospital also earned Pennsylvania's number one rank for medical excellence in joint replacement and ranked third for neurosurgery out of the state's 170 facilities. Robert Packer was in the top 10% of all hospitals nationwide for medical excellence for Cardiac Care; Major Cardiac Surgery (#27 in Nation); GI Hemorrhage; Joint Replacement (#32 in Nation); Major Neurosurgery and Pulmonary Care.
