- Body Imaging/PET Radiologist
Description
Overview:
The Michigan State University Department of Radiology is seeking a full-time BC/BE, fellowship-trained body imaging radiologist with PET expertise to join our growing academic practice. This position is well suited for nuclear radiologists and nuclear medicine radiologists seeking an academic medical specialty that integrates advanced nuclear medicine imaging, clinical service, research, and medical education within a major academic institution.
At MSU Radiology, our faculty members advance patient-centered care while supporting innovation across clinical work, research, and education. As a leading healthcare provider, our department plays a critical role in the diagnosis and management of complex conditions, including oncologic disorders and heart disease, supporting multidisciplinary teams in the development of evidence-based treatment plans. Faculty contribute to high-impact clinical service while participating in collaborative research initiatives across academic institutions.
Our state-of-the-art imaging centers, built on the McLaren Greater Lansing Campus in 2022 and 2023, include MRI, CT, PET/CT, ultrasound, and general diagnostic radiography. These diverse facility types support high-volume clinical operations, subspecialty consultation, and advanced oncologic PET imaging, including PET scans used to guide diagnosis, staging, and response assessment for patients with cancer.
As part of MSU’s expanding research enterprise, the university recently completed construction of the Center for Imaging and Image-Guided Therapies (CIIGT), a 13,000-square-foot research facility supporting human, companion animal, large animal, and preclinical studies, including small animal PET. The CIIGT strengthens MSU’s translational imaging mission by bridging preclinical studies and clinical applications across multiple medical specialties. The centerpiece of the CIIGT is a Siemens Biograph One PET/MRI system, operational in March 2026, located adjacent to the department’s cyclotrons and radiopharmacies to support advanced theranostics, investigational imaging, and novel therapeutic procedures. MSU maintains an ongoing comprehensive research agreement with Siemens Healthineers and is an active member of the Siemens research community.
Together, our clinical and research platforms enable nuclear radiologists and nuclear medicine radiologists to leverage advanced positron emission tomography and nuclear medicine imaging technologies to generate detailed image data and images of the body that characterize both structure and the function of organs using targeted radioactive tracer methodologies. These capabilities support precision imaging for oncologic PET applications and contribute directly to individualized treatment plans.
Faculty in this role will engage in clinical work, participate in multidisciplinary care teams, and contribute to medical education within a nationally recognized medical school. Responsibilities include teaching medical students and residents, mentoring trainees engaged in clinical training and preclinical studies, and collaborating with departmental leadership to expand advanced subspecialty training opportunities. Candidates with interest in academic program development may have the opportunity to design, develop, and lead a future fellowship in nuclear medicine imaging, positron emission tomography, or theranostics.
This role offers extensive opportunities for collaboration with medical professionals across radiology, oncology, cardiology, and other disciplines, supporting innovation in imaging science and reinforcing MSU’s mission as a leading academic healthcare provider.
