The VA Palo Alto Health Care System (VAPAHCS) and Stanford University invite nuclear medicine physicians or nuclear radiologists with MD or MD/PhD degree(s) or equivalent to apply for its full-time staff physician position at VA Palo Alto. We will seek an appointment for the successful candidate at Stanford University School of Medicine as a Clinician Educator (Affiliated). Academic rank will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
The major criterion for appointment for Clinician Educators is excellence in the overall mix of clinical care and clinical teaching appropriate to the programmatic need that the individual is expected to fulfill.
The VA Palo Alto Health Care System (VAPAHCS) consists of three inpatient divisions located at Palo Alto, Menlo Park, and Livermore, in addition to five Community Based Outpatient Clinics. VAPAHCS has 833 operating beds, which include 100 acute care beds located at the Palo Alto division. VAPAHCS provides a full range of patient care services with state-of-the-art technology, as well as education and research. Comprehensive health care is provided through primary, tertiary, and long-term care in areas of medicine, surgery, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, neurology, oncology, dentistry, geriatrics, and extended care. VAPAHCS is also home to one of the most advanced educational simulation centers in the VA network. The imaging services recently opened a new building with all new modalities, including a PET/MRI.
An affiliation with the world renowned Stanford University School of Medicine provides a rich academic environment including medical training for physicians in virtually all specialties and subspecialties. The VAPAHCS Nuclear Medicine Service is tightly affiliated with the Stanford University Department of Radiology and Combined Nuclear Medicine/Diagnostic Radiology residency programs, which are fully accredited with over 55 total residents.
VAPAHCS maintains one of the top three research programs across the VA, supporting both basic and clinical research efforts in a wide range of areas including oncology, geriatrics, mental health, Alzheimer's disease, spinal cord regeneration, schizophrenia, rehabilitation and regenerative medicine, HIV research, health services and health economics research. We are a regional referral center for complex care, including use of targeted radiopharmaceuticals and diagnosis and therapy.
The successful candidate will be involved in the clinical, teaching, and, if applicable, research functions within the Nuclear Medicine Service at VAPAHCS. Candidates must be board-certified or board-eligible in nuclear medicine and, if applicable, have demonstrated or shown potential for an outstanding track record of research productivity. U.S. citizenship is a requirement for this position; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

The expected base pay range for this position is: $385,000-$400,000.
VA Palo Alto has provided a pay range representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for the position upon hire. The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate including experience, field or discipline. It does not include all components of the Palo Alto VA faculty compensation program or pay from participation in departmental incentive compensation programs.
