Company Profile

Radiology Associates, P.A. (RAPA)

Company Overview

Radiology Associates is the oldest (101 years old) and largest private practice radiology group in the state of Arkansas.

Company History

As the United States prepared to enter World War I, the School of Medicine in Little Rock, Arkansas, acquired its first roentgen diagnosis equipment. A young medical graduate from Indiana, Dr. Darmon A. Rhinehart, had recently joined the anatomy faculty at the medical school. The novel x-ray gadgets were made his responsibility. In 1919, Dr. Rhinehart opened a private practice of roentgenology in Little Rock. He joined the staffs of St. Vincent Infirmary and the Missouri Pacific Railroad Hospital, later to become Southwest Hospital. In this way, Radiology Associates traces its beginnings to the early years of this century. We marked 100 years in 2019.

Radiology Associates, P.A. (RAPA) is among the oldest business enterprises in Arkansas and one of the oldest continuously operating medical practices in the United States. We have provided significant national leadership to radiology and have consistently been at the forefront of technologic innovation. In the early 1970’s, the British EMI Corporation installed the twenty-third CT scanner in history in our main office in the Doctors Building. In the early 1980’s, we took delivery of the first MRI scanner in Arkansas, among the first one hundred clinical MRI installations in the world.

In more recent times, in an effort to continue to provide state-of-the-art care and, at the same time, cope with changing economic circumstances, we have grown to serve nearly two dozen hospitals throughout Arkansas, in addition to a large office practice. We have attracted radiologists from the best radiology programs in the country. We have radiologists with fellowship training in all of the major branches of radiology from top programs around the country. Most of our partners spent at least some time training at Mallinckrodt, Duke, Southwester and/or the University of Arkansas.
